Full description

THE 3RD SHARE RESULTING FROM THE DIVISION OF SAUNDERTON ST NICHOLAS MANOR IN 1235 CAME TO BE KNOWN AS BROMES, BROMYS OR BROWN'S MANOR. RALPH BROWN WAS HOLDING BEFORE 1300. [MANORIAL HISTORY]. IT IS LAST MENTIONED AS A DISTINCT MANOR IN 1749 (B1).
SAUNDERTON INCLOSURE MAP SHOWS FIELD IN WHICH MOAT &C IS SITUATED TO BE CALLED 'BROWNS'. SINCE SITE HAS BEEN INTERPRETED AS A MOATED MANOR SITE [CAS 00307:01], IT SEEMS REASONABLE TO SUPPOSE IT REPRESENTS THE SITE OF BROWN'S MANOR (B4-5).
