WINSLOW WAS A ROYAL RESIDENCE OF MERCIAN KINGS (BI1); KING OFFA OF MERCIA (757-796) STAYED HERE C792 & OTHER TIMES (BI3). AREA CALLED OFFA'S PIECE, IN SCHOOL PLAYING FIELD ON DENE'S HILL (OS 222; AT NGR) SO CALLED DUE TO VICTORIAN FANCY? (BI4)- NOTHING VISIBLE THERE, 1982 (BI5)
